?Otumfuo Foundation Donate Books To Basic Schools In Owasso.
The Otumfuo Educational Foundation and AngloGold Ashanti have teamed up to improve education in Obuasi in the Ashanti region of Ghana by donating 30,000 English and Twi textbooks worth GH¢1.3 million to basic schools. The donation aims to enhance pupils' reading culture and improve their performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The textbooks were selected after consulting the local education directorates to identify the actual needs of schools in the area. The Municipal Chief Executive of Obuasi believes the donation will not only improve students' performance but also build their confidence in learning. He pledged that the assembly would support schools with other materials to ensure students succeed.
Mavis Nana Yaa, the Gender Superintendent of AngloGold Ashanti, said education is the foundation of every society's development, hence the donation. The objective is to help increase the BECE pass rate at Obuasi and give students equal learning opportunities. The partnership with the Otumfuo Educational Foundation will improve livelihoods in their operational areas.
The donation of textbooks is a step in the right direction and is likely to make a positive impact if implemented properly. By providing relevant and adequate learning materials and tools, pupils' reading culture and comprehension skills will improve. This in turn should translate to better BECE results in the region.
However, there are other factors that influence examination performance besides textbooks. Schools also require qualified teachers, basic infrastructure like desks and chairs, as well as funding for extracurricular activities. A holistic approach that addresses all these issues is more likely to bring about sustainable improvements in education quality and learning outcomes.
The Otumfuo Educational Foundation and AngloGold Ashanti deserve praise for their intervention. With continued support and partnership with other stakeholders, they can help transform education and livelihoods in Obuasi for the betterment of the schools and the region as a whole.
