KATH:   Fake  doctor  attended  to  no patients.

Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi has vehemently denied accusations that the apprehended individual suspected of posing as a doctor had attended to patients within the hospital premises.

The incident unfolded on Monday when a person identifying themselves as "Dr. Williams Cyril Cohen" donned medical attire with this name and was confronted near the Accident and Emergency Centre (A&E) due to providing unsatisfactory answers about their identity and purpose within the hospital.

According to a statement released by Mr. Kwame Frimpong, the Public Relations Officer of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, it was clarified that the suspect had not been located at any of the hospital's service points. As a result, any allegations suggesting that the individual had attended to patients are unfounded and contrary to the facts.

The statement offered further insights into the incident, revealing that a hospital director encountered the suspect on the walkway behind the A&E center. The individual was carrying a backpack and was dressed in a medical scrub with the name 'Dr. Williams Cyril Cohen.' They claimed to be merely passing through the hospital premises for a delivery, attempting to exit when their identity and workplace were questioned.

Given the suspicious circumstances, the director raised an alarm, leading to the apprehension of the individual, who was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.

KATH emphasized its robust team-based system responsible for overseeing patient care services, ensuring that only accredited and authorized staff members can access and attend to patients at designated service points. Additionally, the hospital highlighted its utilization of an Electronic Medical Records System (EMRS) that can only be accessed by authorized personnel with unique passwords. This security measure ensures that non-staff members cannot gain access to patient information or provide medical treatment.

The statement reassured the public that non-staff members are incapable of conducting assessments, making diagnoses, conducting reviews, or prescribing treatments to patients within the hospital. It also issued a cautionary note, advising individuals to avoid interacting with unauthorized personnel outside of accredited service areas within the hospital and to promptly report such encounters to the nearest security personnel.
