Founder  of  Valley  View  University passed away  @  84

Pastor Professor Jacob Jonas Ni Klu Nortey, the revered founder of Valley View University, an institution deeply intertwined with the Seventh Day Adventist Church and the realm of Christian education, has peacefully departed this world at the age of 84.

His life was a shining testament to unwavering devotion to Christian education and an extraordinary journey alongside Christ, an indelible mark etched into the hearts and minds of countless individuals.

Born in the picturesque town of Abokobi, Pastor Nortey's educational odyssey embarked from the Abokobi Presbyterian School. Over the years, his ascent through the ranks of the Christian Church's educational system was meteoric, culminating in his becoming a Vice President of the Seventh Day Adventist Church worldwide and earning the distinguished title of Reverend Professor.

Pastor Nortey was not merely a leader; he was a pioneer, an exceptional door-opener. His life exemplified an unquenchable desire to inspire others towards the realization of their aspirations. Tirelessly, he toiled to nurture the innate talents and abilities of those in his sphere, guiding them along the path illuminated by the teachings of Jesus Christ.

The year 1959 marked the initiation of his spiritual journey when he embraced the Seventh Day Adventist faith during the Elder E.E. Cleveland Crusade in Accra. From that point forward, he remained steadfast in his commitment to spiritual enlightenment and the pursuit of academic excellence in Christian education, both in Africa and the United States.

One of his most monumental contributions was the establishment of Valley View University in Oyibi, Accra. This monumental endeavor was a culmination of his unwavering dedication during his tenure as the first black President of the SDA Church in Africa/India Ocean. His resolute determination to provide the youth of Ghana with access to superior academic opportunities led to the creation of this prestigious institution, situated in close proximity to the University of Ghana, Legon.

Even after retiring from the esteemed office of Church Finance and Administration, Pastor Nortey continued to kindle the flames of inspiration among future generations. He served as an adjunct lecturer at Valley View University and several other esteemed institutions around the globe. Notably, he also held the position of ex-President at Datalink University in Tema.

Pastor Nortey's influence transcended the realms of academia and the church. He was the godparent to several prominent individuals, including the Honorable Dr. Alfred Ni Ok Vanderpuije, former Accra Mayor and MP of Ablekuma South, Professor Seth Nii Aban Laryea, former Vice Chancellor of Valley View University, and Dr. Moses Tawiah Adoko, Chief Knowledge Officer of the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and a distinguished Professor of Aerospace Complex Systems.

His legacy continues to flourish through the J.J Nortey Education Trust Funds, providing invaluable support to countless individuals pursuing tertiary and Christian education both in Ghana and abroad.

On September 15, we shall gather at the Valley View University Church in Oyibi to bid a final farewell to this remarkable soul whose life has left an indelible imprint on the world of Christian education and beyond.
