SAD NEWS AS SHEFFIELD UNITED WOMEN'S STAR DIES AGED 27

Sheffield United female player Maddy Cusack has passed away at the age of 27. Cusack has played for the Blades since 2019, making over 100 appearances for the club. She also worked for United as a marketing director. United Chief Executive Stephen Bettis said:

“This is heartbreaking news for everyone at Bramall Lane. “Maddy was in the unique position of being a member of several Sheffield United teams and loved by everyone she came into contact with. “Her character and professionalism are an honor to her family – she will be greatly missed.” While absorbing the news and moving forward, the club will provide as much support as possible to Maddy's family, friends, and colleagues.

The club added in a statement: "Discussions regarding appropriate tributes and celebrations of Maddy's life will continue privately. The club and Maddy's family will assess We are in a private time and will not be commenting further at this sad time.

" Cusack is expected to begin his sixth season with Sheffield United at the start of the 2023/24 season. She is the first player to reach 100 appearances for the club, where she has worked since leaving Sheffield United Community Foundation in 2021.

Baroness Sue Campbell, the FA's director of women's football, said: “We are all devastated to learn of the death of Maddy Cusack. On behalf of the FA, Lionesses, Women's Super League and Women's Championship, we would like to send our thoughts and deepest condolences to Maddy's family, friends, teammates and everyone at Sheffield United.

"Maddy also represented England at age group level and we will pay tribute to her at the appropriate time. We are in contact with the club and will continue to support them fully for the foreseeable future. with this sadness." Cusack's former club Birmingham City wrote: "The club is saddened to hear of the passing of former player Maddy Cusack.
