Aaron Ramsdale's father called Jamie Carragher a "disgrace" and told him to "show class" after joking about the Arsenal goalkeeper after the north London derby. Ramsdale was on the bench as Arsenal drew 2-2 with rivals Tottenham, with new signing David Raya selected ahead of him for the third consecutive game after signing from Brentford in the summer.

After Raya made a fine save to deny Brennan Johnson, Ramsdale could be seen applauding his effort from the bench. However, Carragher joked that Ramsdale was truly "devastated" when Raya made the save and likened his reaction to that of an actor losing out on winning an Oscar. Speaking on Sky Sports, the Liverpool legend said: “I think it's like the Oscars; you know, when someone loses the Oscar, they start clapping and smiling at the other person.

I laughed when I saw that. He is absolutely devastated by this. However, Ramsdale's father Nick hit back at Carragher's comments on social media, writing, "You are disgraceful!! Show some class!! My son has done that. " Speaking before the derby, Gunners coach Mikel Arteta praised the way Ramsdale reacted to his departure and admitted it was not an easy decision.

“Maybe I looked at it, but in your heart, when you have players on the bench and you have to announce the squad, that is one of the most difficult things,” Arteta said. “Players feel appreciated and happy when playing. And when they don't, it's very difficult.

You want them to feel loved and trusted and the way to do that is to play with them. But everyone understands that this is a team sport and there are always 11 starting players. “But we also see the importance of the finalists and how important it is for everyone to go into the season and not look back at the team that played the first six or seven games of the season.

"It's very difficult for every player. And I suffer and I care about every player who is not playing, but it is competition and my duty is to make decisions in the best possible way for the team. “He's very supportive and really good everywhere, and that's what I expect from every player because when you're on the field there's someone else who's not like that. So that's fine on both counts. So far it's been really good. “Aaron is a special character, he has charisma and an aura around him, and we all know that and I completely understand that.

It happens to a lot of other players, you see the reception that Emile received the other night and it sends the message that we really love him and I really love him, and we have to face it. with that.
