Spanish La Liga (Mallorca vs Barcelona).
Tip: Barcelona wins the match
Acc: Mallorca will be at home on Tuesday against Barcelona in round seven of the Spanish La Liga. The two teams have had contrasting starts to the season with Barcelona currently top of the table while Mallorca are down in 15th. Mallorca have had a slow start to the season and have managed only one win from six games. They have drawn another two matches while the remaining three have ended in defeat. This has left them just two points above the drop zone. Javier Aguirre’s men were defeated 5-3 away to Girona on Saturday. That defeat ended a two-match unbeaten run and came after a 1-0 victory away at Celta Vigo. Los Piratas haven’t won or scored a goal in their two matches at home this season.
Barcelona haven’t lost against Mallorca in 14 years. They have won 13 of the 14 matches in this period including the last 11. This sublime record coupled with their superb start to the season should have the visitors confident of another win here. The Catalans are one of three teams yet to lose a match this season. They have won five of their six matches and currently top the standings by goal difference. Xavi Hernandez’s men are tied on 16 points with Girona and are a point above third-placed Real Madrid. They could however drop to second if Madrid win their game in hand against Atletico Madrid on Sunday. Barcelona have won six straight games with the latest being a 3-2 success against Celta Vigo. The Blaugrana had to come from behind to secure all three points against Celta at home on Saturday.
Serie A (Juventus vs Lecce)
Tip: Juventus wins the match
Acc: Juventus will welcome Lecce on Tuesday in the Serie A looking to get back to winning ways. The two teams are bumper to bumper in the standings with third-placed Lecce sitting a point above Juventus in fourth. Juventus suffered a shock 4-2 defeat on Saturday away to Sassuolo to lose their unbeaten start to the season. They will now seek an immediate response and their past success against Lecce will have them confident of doing so. The Bianconeri haven’t lost to their soon-to-be victors in six meetings with four of those matches ending in victory. Massimiliano Allegri’s men had gone unbeaten in eight matches across all competitions before losing to Sassuolo. Six of those matches had ended in victory with three coming in the league. Juventus have amassed 10 points and could be five points off the pace by the time they host Lecce.
Lecce are flying high at this early stage of the season. Roberto D’Aversa’s men are one of two teams yet to succumb to a defeat after five rounds of play. They have won three times and currently sit just one point off top spot. I Lupi were 1-0 winners over Genoa on Friday and will now seek their first away win of the season. All four of their victories, including in the Coppa Italia, have come with them as hosts. This match with Juve will also be their toughest test yet. The Yellow and Reds haven’t played against a team in the top seven. Lecce haven't won away to Juventus since a 4-3 success 19 years ago
France Ligue 1(Lille Osc vs Reims)
Tip: Both teams to score
Acc: Lille will be looking to rise in the Ligue 1 standings when they host Reims in a Monday meeting. The two sides are separated by a point, with Lille 10th on eight points and Reims 12th on seven. Another home win in their last match will lift Lille going into this one. They overcame Olimpija 2-0 in their Conference League game with goals from Jonathan David and Yusuf Yazici. So far, Lille have four wins in four home matches this season and will be very confident here. stretching back to last season, they are unbeaten in 22 matches at home across all competitions. The main concern however, for Lille, will be their few clean sheets this season. In their eight matches so far, they have just three clean sheets. They have a good scoring run though, netting in each of the matches. This means both sides have scored in five of the eight games.
Reims will come into this game seeking to bounce back after two matches without a win. They have also been poor defensively though they’ve been able to make up for it in attack. Reims suffered a 2-1 loss to Brest in their last game, conceding twice for the third time in five matches. However, they’ve scored in each of those five matches, on three occasions netting more than a goal. A combination of these aspects sees Reims coming to this game with just one clean sheet in five matches. Both teams have scored in four of their five matches. It has been the same in four of their last five meetings with Lille. In their last nine league matches Reims have managed just one clean sheet. They have none in seven away matches, both sides scoring in four of the last five.
EFL (Manchester United vs Crystal Palace)
Tip: Manchester United wins the match
Acc: Manchester United will begin their League Cup campaign on Tuesday with a home match against Crystal Palace. The winner here will advance to the fourth round of the tournament. Manchester United are coming off a crucially important win in the league on Saturday. Erik ten Hag's men were 1-0 winners away to Burnley to put a halt to a three-match losing stretch. United have struggled this season and have found wins hard to come by as the Burnley win was their third in seven matches. They have lost the other four fixtures and are yet to avoid defeat in back-to-back games. But as they are unbeaten in three against Palace, winning twice, the hosts will be confident of their chances here. Injuries have impacted the Red Devils greatly this season. Though changes are expected to be made for this match, it is highly unlikely that they will be wholesome.
Crystal Palace were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Fulham over the weekend in the league. The result extended their run without a win to two matches after they had lost to Villa a week prior. Palace have had a rocky start to the season. They have recorded three wins and lost twice in seven games. One of those wins however came in the League Cup. The Londoners began their campaign in the previous round and defeated Plymouth 4-2 away from home. This will be their second successive away match in the competition. Roy Hodgson made wholesome changes against Plymouth and could be expected to do so again on Tuesday. Jean-Phillipe Mateta grabbed a hat-trick in that round two fixture and should be in line to make his first start since then.
UEFA Women's Nations League (Netherlands W vs England W)
Tip: England W wins the match
Acc: England bid to get a second win in the new UEFA Women's Nations League. The Lionesses top League A1 and travel to the Netherlands who are bottom of the group. The other two sides in the group are Belgium (second on three points) and Scotland. England are out to put the disappointment of losing the Women's World Cup final behind them. They started that with a 2-1 home win over Scotland in their first group match. Goals from Lucy Bronze and Lauren Hemp in the space of six minutes put them in charge. The Scottish side pulled a goal back just before half time but England went on to win the match. They have now won seven of their last eight games if you include the penalty shoot out win over Nigeria. The two sides last met in 2022 with England getting a 5-1 home win.
The Netherlands need to get something from this match after losing their opening game. They led for a minute in Belgium but ended up losing 2-1 due to a 93rd minute goal by Jassina Blom. That was their second successive loss after being beaten by Spain in the Women's World Cup quarter final. Only two of their last four games have been won with victories over Vietnam and South Africa. Of 11 games played this year the Orange have failed to win five of them. England will want to build on their opening win and can get a valuable away win.
