There's going to be interesting times in our political scenes as Hon. Alan Kwadwo Kyeremateng joins the presidential race as an independent candidate. Alan who pulled 95 votes at the Super Delegates Conference, making him the third on the top five candidates to contest for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership come November 4th, 2023 surprisingly pulls out of the race citing disaffection for him and attacks on his followers. However, yesterday he announced his resignation from the party to contest as an independent candidate. What concerns Ghanaians now is; whether he will be able to break the NPP-NDC monopoly?
Alan states that to actualize this goal, he will establish and lead a new MOVEMENT FOR CHANGE in Ghana. This movement will bare the brand logo of the Monarch Butterfly, which politically symbolizes change and transformation, hope, and positivity. He adds that it also communicates strength, endurance, spirituality, and trust, which are key traits that he cherishes as a Political Leader. He adds that, this new movement will be led and powered by the youth.
He also provides four themes that his agenda is premised on. These include:
1. Change the political status quo by moving Ghana beyond the duopoly of the two main political parties in Ghana; the NPP and NDC.
2. Promote the establishment of a Government of National.
3. Build consensus on a National Development Agenda.
4. Inspire behavioral and attitudinal change in the people of Ghana.
We have seen other political parties and independent candidates and how they have performed in the presidential elections in the past. Nevertheless, looking at the worth of experience and popularity that Alan Kwadwo Kyeremateng brings to the political field, will he make that difference?
However, the NPP has reacted to this decision by Alan and has assured the public that it will address the issue today by 2pm.
The question remains unanswered.
