The Electoral Commission of Ghana is the official body in Ghana responsible for all public elections. Made up of seven members, its independence is guaranteed by the 1992 Ghana constitution.The current commission was established by the Electoral Commission Act Act 451 of 1993.Kwadwo Afari-Gyan was the first substantive chairman of the commission, from 1993 to 2015. He was succeeded by Charlotte Osei as the first female chairman of the commission from 2015 to June 2018.Jean Adukwei Mensah succeeded Charlotte Osei in July 2018. On December 5, 2018, the Electoral commission chaired by Jean Adukwei Mensah reverted to the old logo showing the Coat of arms of Ghana and a ballot box showing the hand casting its votes, after the controversy over the new logo.


EC’s vote transfer, ID card replacement window begins.



The Electoral Commission (EC) has disclosed that the transfer of votes and replacement of lost and defaced ID cards will begin today, Tuesday, October 3, 2023.


In an interview, Dr. Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chair in Charge of Corporate Services at the EC, urged the public to take advantage of the window to either transfer their vote or replace their lost ID cards.



The Electoral Commission of Ghana has cautioned Electorates to think twice and very wisely before making the move to transfer your vote to a new Constituency or Polling station because it's a permanent and irreversible process.



The Electoral Commission after a successful Limited Voter Registration Exercise for Ghanaians of sound mind who had attained 18 years or did not have their names in the Voters Register, another exercise for Transfer of Votes and Replacement of lost or damaged Voter ID Cards also began from 5th October and expected to end on 9th October, 2023.


Speaking to an interview with Asta Fm's Nana Kwadwo Adu in Techiman on 103.9 Fm / Winners 98.5 Fm) - Techiman, Bono East Region. Dr. Gabriel Dei Yeboah the Bono East Regional Director of Electoral Commission noted that some People are being influenced by family, friends or Politicians to transfer their votes to certain Constituencies but cautioned that anyone caught lieing to the EC Officials in order to be able to transfer your vote could land you into Prison.


Dr. Gabriel Dei Yeboah announced that the Bono East Region was able to register 39,815 new Voters at the end of the 22-Day Limited Exercise with Techiman South Constituency recording the highest number of 6,221 and Sene East Constituency having the lowest with 1,979 people.


He concluded that the Bono East Region recorded 298 Challenge cases with the Atebubu/Amantin Constituency leading in challenges with 94 cases.
