Frank Lampard has held talks with Rangers bosses about returning to a managerial position. Lampard has been out of work since his tenure as Chelsea's interim manager ended in May, with the Blues winning just one of his 11 games.

However, Rangers are keen to appoint Lampard as their new manager, and the former England midfielder is one of the potential candidates to replace Michael Beale. Beale was sacked earlier this month after a 3-1 defeat to Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers are currently third in the rankings behind rivals Celtic and St. Mirren. And the Daily Record reports that Lampard met with club officials to discuss hiring Rangers on Wednesday night in London.

However, he is not the only one in the race, with the report adding that Kevin Muscat has also made it to the final round of interviews. Muscat, who spent one season with Rangers as a player, is currently in charge of Japanese club Yokohama F. Marinos.

The former Australian international took over from current Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou after he left to join Celtic. Muscat is said to have held talks with Rangers via video call on Wednesday, following his return to Japan after his team beat Shandong Taishan 1-0 in an Asian Champions League match in China on Tuesday.

The report adds that Kilmarnock's Derek McInnes is also being "seriously considered", while Eintracht Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner has "thrown his hat into the ring". Steven Davis is currently caretaker and his first game ended in defeat, as Cypriot club Aris Limassol beat Rangers 2-1 in the Europa League on Thursday.

“We are suffering tonight, but it is important, as a team, to be together,” he said after the match. “I still believe we have some really quality players. Clearly, confidence has taken a hit. You have to go through these periods in your career and they are really difficult times.

"By staying together, you ensure that you get the basics right in terms of the hard work and application that they have done. It is important that we continue on this path and things will change change because I believe in the qualities of the 'team'.

“We will get the players back, which will help. The most important thing right now is that we are a band. They are all desperate to turn the situation around. Obviously, the confidence has been affected; it's natural; I've been there myself as a player.”
