Zoleka Mandela, the late granddaughter of Nelson Mandela, had planned her final days, right down to the list of attendees for her funeral.
She will be buried at Fourways Memorial Park next to her two deceased children, her mother and her grandmother Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.
She passed away on September 25th after a long battle with metastatic cancer that spread to her lower back, liver, lungs, pelvis, brain and spinal cord.
In her diary, she listed the people she didn't want at her funeral or near her body. The list includes Thierry Bashara, the father of two children. Leeroy Andie Cana, father of the last born Zingce.
She also listed several people from the Mandela and Madikizela families. Zenani Mandela Sr., Mandla Mandela, Zukiswa Madikizela, Nsundu Madikizela, Vuelekaya Dalindyebo.
She stated that some of the names she identified with her characters were men who sexually abused her, and therefore he did not deserve to see her body.
Zoleka recently revealed that she had been preparing to die. She met with her family, lawyer, and therapist to discuss what her children's lives would be like after her own death. "I know it sounds weird, but I'm in a state of panic. I feel blessed and lucky to be in the planning stages. "I have loved ones, my lawyer, my therapist, my siblings, and I'm in a state of panic when I die. We talk about what will happen that day and after,” she wrote.
Zoleka revealed that she did not want to cause trouble to her brothers after her death.
Zoleka was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 32 years old and had to undergo her double mastectomy. As if that wasn't enough, in 2010 she lost her daughter Zenani, named after her aunt, in a car accident during the FIFA World Cup.
In 2011, she lost her newborn son Zenawe, who was born prematurely.
In 2012 she married Thierry Bashara and they have two children. However, Zanyiwe and Zenzil divorced in 2020.
In 2020, Zoleka fell in love with painter Andile Khana, and in 2023, her last daughter, Jinse, was born.
