(AP) LAS VEGAS — A long-awaited development in one of hip-hop's longest-running mysteries saw the arrest and charging of a man who authorities claim ordered the 1996 murder of artist Tupac Shakur.

As one of the four suspects named early on in the inquiry, Duane "Keffe D" Davis has long been known to the investigators. Although he is not the alleged shooter, investigators portrayed him as the group's ringleader at a news conference and in court on Friday. If you assist someone in committing a crime, such as murder, you could face criminal charges in Nevada.

According to Lt. Jason Johansson of the Las Vegas Police Department's Homicide Division, "Duane Davis was the shot caller for this group of people that committed this crime and he orchestrated the plan that was carried out."

Following his historic and long-awaited capture on September 29, Duane "Keffe D" Davis made the audacious remark to a police officer as he sat in the backseat of a police cruiser.

The cop responded, "So what they got you for, man?"

Before being questioned if it was a recent event, Davis replied, "Oh man, the biggest case in Las Vegas history."

Davis said, "Sept. 7, 1996," alluding to the occasion when Shakur was killed in a drive-by shooting on the Las Vegas Strip.

The cop remarked, "Oh no s-t, wow, that's a long way away."

In connection with the killing of the "All Eyez On Me" rapper, Davis was charged with murder with the use of a dangerous weapon and a gang enhancement.

WITNESS SAYS ANDERSON ISN'T THE KILLER

Vegas, Nevada - As a witness has asserted, contrary to popular belief, that Orlando Anderson wasn't the triggerman in 2Pac's murder, the case against him keeps taking unexpected turns.

Duane "Keefe D" Davis, Anderson's uncle, was detained this week in connection with the late rapper's death, bringing the long-running unresolved case to its conclusion for the first time.

According to court paperwork that HipHopDX was able to get, Davis, a former member of the South Side Compton Crip, has been charged with "murder with the use of a deadly weapon with the intent to promote, further or assist a criminal gang."

The homicide, according to the prosecution, was done as "retribution" against 2Pac, who attacked Anderson and his group in the MGM Grand's lobby hours earlier.
