Why is Illegal Mining Still In Progress When There has Been a Serious Campaign and Legal Action Against it Over The Years???
Illegal mining or galamsey has been the job for countless number of people over the years. It has been the job that puts food on the tables of countless number of people even now.
With the fact that galamsey has been providing needs for countless number of people, it has also caused great negative effects to the environment such as pollution of water bodies and land degradation etc.
Due to the negative effects caused, successive governments have taken legal actions against galamsey for more than a decade now, but one could wonder, why galamsey is still in progress???

Thank you for watching. Before I continue, I want to direct this question to the government and the top officias involved in the campaign against galamsey. My question is; who would have loved to do such a job when there is a better option?, Who would have love to get involved in such a strenuous and dangerous work if there is a better job in the country??? But because there is no better job for the citizens to do, they have no option than to do what you have seen going on in the video.
I do not in any way want to condemn the campaign against galamsey, but what I am trying to say is that if our economy can be made better and more lucrative jobs could have been created for the citizens, I think no one needs to stress himself or herself before galamsey will be stopped. The kind of measures we need to put in place is to first create more jobs opportunities and also make the economy a better one.
When we looked into this matter critically, per the number of people involved in galamsey and the number of business opportunities it has brought to women in these areas such as selling of food stuffs and other materials etc, if this work should be stopped without any provisions, alot of people will not be able to feed their families and the worst will happen. Thus crime rate will increase.
This is the best reason why the government must create a better economy by assisting business men and women, farmers etc, financially and also with the needed materials to help create more job vacancies.
All what I wish to say is that, if the government can give the citizens of Ghana better job opportunities, I do not think galamsey will be a choice!!
