The Israeli government has not confirmed the specific claim that Hamas attackersc cut off the heads of babies during their shock attack on Saturday, an Israeli official said, contradicting a previous public statement by the Prime Minister’s office.
“There have been cases of Hamas militants carrying out beheadings and other ISIS-style atrocities. However, we cannot confirm if the victims were men or women, soldiers or civilians, adults or children,” the official said.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu indicated that people had been beheaded by Hamas in an appearance beside Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday, but did not specify if they were children.
His office later released what it described as “horrifying photos of babies murdered and burned by the Hamas monsters.”
Historically a number of incidents told to the media and world by Israel that were found to be total untruths:
The Jenin massacre (2002): Israel claimed that a group of Palestinian militants had massacred 23 Israeli soldiers in the Jenin refugee camp. However, an independent investigation by the United Nations Human Rights Council found that there was no evidence of a massacre, and that the Israeli soldiers had been killed in combat.
The Muhammad al-Durrah incident (2000): Israel claimed that Muhammad al-Durrah, a 12-year-old Palestinian boy, and his father had been killed by Palestinian gunfire during a crossfire incident. However, video evidence showed that the two were shot by Israeli soldiers.
The Gaza Strip bombing campaigns (2008-2009, 2012, 2014, 2021). Israel claimed that its bombing campaigns in the Gaza Strip were necessary to target Hamas militants. However, the bombings resulted in the deaths of thousands of Palestinian civilians, including many women and children.
The killing of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh (2022): Israel claimed that Shireen Abu Akleh, a Palestinian-American journalist, was killed in crossfire while covering a raid in the West Bank city of Jenin. However, eyewitness accounts and video evidence showed that Abu Akleh was shot by Israeli soldiers.
These are just a few examples of the long list of untruths that Israel has told to the media and the world. It is important to be aware of these untruths so that we can see through the Israeli propaganda and understand the conflict more clearly.
