Just some clarification on displaying the Palestinian Flag.
London muslim community forum have issued a Press Release dated 11th of October, 2023 on the Attendance at a Pro-Palestinian protests and displaying Palestinian flags.
The London Muslim Community Forum (LMCF) is an Independent Advisory Group. We represent the 1.3 million Muslims living in London by advising the Metropolitan Police on matters affecting our community.
We have received a number of concerns following media reports of statements made yesterday by the Home Secretary, Suella Braverman' and the Foreign Secretary, James Cleverly.
The LMCF held an urgent meeting yesterday to raise the concerns received about the possibility of banning pro-Palestinian protests and the use of a Palestinian flag during pro-Palestinian protests. We were reassured by senior members of the Metropolitan Police that the Palestinian flag was not banned from being displayed. We reiterated feedback from the community that should such action be taken against our community and peaceful pro-Palestinian supporters - legal action will be taken against any such decision to block freedom of speech and freedom of assembly.
We wish to remind everyone that the Palestinian flag is NOT a proscribed terrorist flag under current legislation. It can be displayed at pro-Palestinian protests.
We recommend that attendees should follow advice from protest organisers. We want everyone to respect to follow instructions when ever there is a protest, so we can continue to always have a peaceful protest.
We are closely monitoring the significant escalation in Islamophobia and anti-Arab messages on social media and will be reporting these back to the Metropolitan Police. We will rely on the police and report anything that against Islam to them.
We would like everyone to remain vigilant and report all hate crime to the Metropolitan police using their online submission to make everything easy and simple.
