On the second day of the one-eighth contest of the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) yesterday, nine schools demonstrated their prowess, earning coveted spots as seeds in the quarter-finals.

NSMQ 2023: Wesley Girls first school to qualify for semifinals

Opoku Ware School showcased their mettle, triumphing over Tamale Islamic SHS and Nifa SHS. The Santasi institution clinched victory with an impressive 49 points, leaving Tamale Islamic SHS and Nifa SHS trailing with 42 and 20 points respectively.

St John's School, likewise, exhibited exceptional knowledge, prevailing over St Mary's Boy's SHS and Ghana SHS, Koforidua, securing a place in the quarter-finals with a score of 38 points. St Mary's Boy's SHS managed two points less, while Ghana SHS, Koforidua, concluded the contest with 27 points.

Osei Tutu SHS emerged victorious in the third contest, surpassing University Practice SHS and Winneba SHS. They achieved a commendable 42 points, with University Practice SHS and Winneba SHS falling behind with 36 and 20 points respectively.

The stage is set for fierce competition in the quarter-finals, with Opoku Ware School, St John's School, and Osei Tutu SHS poised for an intense face-off.

In a nail-biting fourth contest, St James Seminary SHS secured their triumph after a formidable struggle against Our Lady of Mt Carmel Girls SHS and St Thomas Aquinas. The victory was sealed in a tiebreaker with Our Lady Mt Carmel, as both schools amassed 44 points after the final round.

Presby SHTS, Aburi, faced off against KNUST SHS and T.I AMASS, Kumasi, in the fifth contest of the day. Presby SHTS emerged victorious with an impressive 47 points, while KNUST SHS and T.I AMASS, Kumasi, fell short with 33 and 32 points respectively.

Pope John Minor Seminary SHS stole the spotlight, amassing a staggering 56 points, the highest score of the day. Their remarkable performance led them to victory over Simms SHS and Sunyani SHS, who garnered 47 and 29 points respectively.

St James Seminary SHS, Pope John Seminary & SHS, and Presby SHTS, Aburi, are set to clash in what promises to be an electrifying quarter-final showdown.

Meanwhile, Labone SHS and SDA SHS, Agona, faced a tough challenge from Aburi Presby SHS. Labone struggled with 42 points, while SDA SHS secured 19 points. Aburi Presby SHS emerged victorious with a total of 45 points.

In a fiercely contested battle, the 2022 first runners-up, Prempeh College, outshone T.I AMASS, Fomena, and Navrongo SHS, securing their berth in the quarter-finals with an impressive 52 points. T.I AMASS, Fomena, and Navrongo SHS trailed behind with 34 and 28 points respectively.

In the final contest of the day, Mawuli School demonstrated their prowess, besting Amaniampong SHS and St Catherine SHS to clinch victory with an impressive 52 points. They are now poised to face Prempeh College and Aburi Presby SHS in what is expected to be a fiercely competitive quarter-final round.
