Accra Academy showed steadfast will to avoid a repeat loss against Presec, Legon in a highly competitive quarterfinal round at the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) yesterday. It was an intensely contested battle.

The Bleoo guys battled with admirable perseverance, wanting to avenge their earlier season defeat to Presec Legon.

Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School, Presec Legon, which had earlier won the Greater Accra Regional Championship by defeating Accra Aca and Tema Methodist SHS, ultimately prevailed despite their valiant attempts.

As the respected Quiz Mistress, Prof. Elsie Effah Kaufmann, gave Accra Academy her sincere congratulations, there was a range of emotions in the room.

"It's painful to see Accra Academy exit the competition with 58 points," she said with empathy.

Prof. Kaufmann skillfully reminded everyone in attendance that, despite the great points the runner-up scored, only one winner can emerge from this very competitive environment.

A heartfelt demonstration of good sportsmanship characterized the final minutes when Presec students and supporters joined together in thunderous ovation to recognize Accra Academy's outstanding accomplishment.

Although the final score may indicate Presec's victory, it's important to remember that none of the semifinalists scored 58 points in their individual qualifying matches.

With 57 points, Prempeh College was the closest. Although Accra Academy is leaving the competition, a head-to-head comparison of their achievements clearly highlights their exceptional performance among the eight semifinalists.

In the annals of the NSMQ, Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School, Presec Legon, had a colorful past. With a history of unmatched accomplishments, Presec is without a doubt the most successful school in the competition's history.

Presec Boys, the reigning champions, have shown an unwavering dedication to retaining their position this year.

They have adopted catchphrases like "We domin8" and "Our God is gr8" as rallying calls, which represent their quest for an eighth championship.

These are not just empty words; Presec backs them up with a commitment to training and resources, which they use year after year to get their participants ready for the NSMQ.
