Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Michael Okyere Baafi, who launched the truck, described the feat of Rana Motors as a milestone in the country's automobile industry. He said it was especially inspiring that the Phoenix Ashok Leyland vehicles were assembled entirely by local engineers.
Mr. Baafi said the launch of the Phoenix Ashok Leyland vehicle is ample evidence of the positive impact of the Ghana Automotive Development Policy formulated by the government to promote the development of the automobile industry.
He said the assembly of Ashok Leyland vehicle brands under GADP has increased the number of vehicle brands assembled under the program to 11. The Deputy Minister added that, with the aim of promoting the development of the integrated automobile industry, the government is completing the processes of developing component production policies.
“The policy aims to attract investments from component manufacturers to boost the local auto industry while providing aftermarket components across the sub-region,” he said.
He said the policy will further improve the availability of certified parts and assemblies to promote exports of vehicles made in Ghana in accordance with African Continental Free Trade Area regulations. (AfCFTA).

He said the launch of Phoenix truck is a result of closer collaboration between Rana Motors and Ashok Leyland stressing that the success of any business depends on such collaboration.
