In a unique turn of events, an ordained Kenyan Catholic priest named Reverend Father Edwin Gathang’i Waiguru has made the decision to get married. This decision goes against the traditional Catholic practice of priests committing to a life of celibacy. However, Father Waiguru has now aligned himself with a splinter group known as the Catholic Charismatic church.

The wedding ceremony was conducted by Bishop Patrick Mulau of the Kirinyaga Charismatic Church on a Sunday in Kiambu country, located just north of the capital city, Nairobi. Father Waiguru stood proudly beside his bride, Margaret Wanjira Githui, as they exchanged vows and celebrated their union.

During the ceremony, Father Waiguru expressed his belief that it is possible to serve God and have a family, emphasizing that having a loving wife does not hinder one's devotion to God. He stated, "God did not make a mistake when he created a man and a woman, and He said it is not good for somebody to be alone." This sentiment reflects his conviction that one can fulfill their religious duties while also experiencing the joys of companionship and marriage.

The wedding ceremony was attended by hundreds of the couple's family members and friends, all eager to witness this unconventional union. The event garnered attention from the media, with NTV reporting on the extraordinary nature of the ceremony.

Father Waiguru's decision to marry has sparked discussions within the Catholic community, as it challenges the long-standing practice of celibacy among priests. While celibacy has been a requirement for Catholic priests, there have been instances throughout history where priests have chosen to leave the priesthood in pursuit of marriage. Father Waiguru's choice highlights the ongoing debate surrounding celibacy within the Catholic Church.

It is important to note that Father Waiguru's decision to marry and align himself with the Catholic Charismatic church does not necessarily reflect the views or practices of the broader Catholic Church. The Catholic Charismatic church is considered a splinter group, and their beliefs and practices may differ from those of the mainstream Catholic Church.

Overall, Father Edwin Gathang’i Waiguru's wedding to Margaret Wanjira Githui marks a significant departure from the traditional expectations placed upon Catholic priests. It serves as a reminder that individuals may interpret and practice their faith in unique ways, challenging long-standing traditions and sparking conversations within religious communities.
