On Wednesday the 25th of October, 2023 in the morning Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa cut sod for road construction to immediately begin on the Aveyime-Agbetikpo-Tokpo road.
The construction is being fully funded by Mawums Construction Company Limited.
These are roads damaged by flood waters and therefore creating considerable transportation and logistical challenges.
When completed in a few days, it would facilitate smooth distribution of relief items to displaced camps along the Agbetikpo and Fodzoku corridor.
Since the initiation of the spillage process on September 15, the Volta River Authority has been releasing excess water due to the elevated water levels in the Akosombo and Kpong hydro dams.
However, in the subsequent weeks, many residents along the Lower Volta Basin have witnessed their homes and farmlands submerged by the resulting floods.
This intentional spillage has severely impacted several districts, including South, Central, and North Tongu in the Volta Region.
Communities like Battor, Tefle, Mepe, Sogakope, Adidome, and Anlo have been inundated.
The consequences for the affected individuals have been significant, with over 26,000 people displaced and rendered homeless, according to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NaDMO).
