When Alan Kyerematen, former Minister of Trade, announced his resignation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the formation of the Movement for Change (MfC), many people were surprised to see that the party's logo is a butterfly. After all, butterflies are delicate creatures, often seen as symbols of fragility. So why would a movement choose such a creature as its logo?
There are a few possible explanations; butterflies are also symbols of transformation and change. They go through a dramatic metamorphosis from caterpillar to pupa to adult butterfly. This can be a powerful message for a movement looking to change the status quo or bring about transformation in society.
Butterflies are associated with hope and optimism. They represent the beauty of nature and the possibility of new beginnings. This can be a positive and uplifting message for a movement inspiring its supporters and giving them hope for the future.
The movement for change led by Mr. Alan Kyerematen inaugurated on the 25th of September, 2023 has embarked on an outreach program in Kumasi the capital of the Ashanti region. They were clad in their gold T-shirts with the butterfly logo and the volunteers entered the central business district of Kumasi as well as the market centers to market their movement to the people of Kumasi (Oseikrom).
The reception that greeted the volunteers was overwhelming to the extent that at some point the team had to beg the people to forgive them on their inability to provide them with more paraphernalia of the movement.
Voters in the city gave a thumbs up to the team for their wonderful work and assured the volunteers that it is just a matter of time that they will see all of them as businessmen and women join the movement as volunteers and that the country needs to be saved from the hands of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
With less than 14 months to go into election 2024, if the mindset of those in the two leading political parties who have led this country cumulatively for thirty two (32) years think that election 2024 will be one of the usual and normal elections where Ghanaian inspite of the unprecedented hardships that have been unleashed on people of this country. They shouldn't think that people will just go and choose between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). I believe the people must have a second thought or think again.
The movement for change will be a force to reckon and history surely will be made.
