The ruling NPP will choose a new flagbearer today, November 4, 2023, ahead of the presidential elections in 2024.
The Ghana Police Service has stated that during the NPP's flagbearer elections, its officers will wear body cameras to police the various voting centers.
Police bodyworn cameras will also be deployed at all voting locations as an added degree of protection, according to a police statement.
As part of the security arrangement, the Police Service met with the Electoral Commission, the NP Presidential Election Committee, and representatives of the flagbearer candidates.
Over 200,000 delegates will vote in each of the 275 constituencies across the country.
Members of Parliament, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives, ministers and their deputies, foundation members of the NPP, members of the party's National Council, and patrons and council of elders are among the delegates who make up the Electoral College.
The flagbearer race has been dubbed a straight fight between Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Other candidates are former Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie and former Mampong MP Francis Addai-Nimoh.
The Ghana Police Service wishes to reassure the general public that adequate security measures have been put in place to maintain law and order as well as to ensure peace and security before, during, and after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries, which will take place tomorrow, November 4th, 2023.
A sufficient number of police officers have been deployed across the country to provide security during the polls.
