Italian police confirmed on Tuesday that a man was stabbed in a clash between two groups of fans in Milan before a Champions League match.
The 34-year-old victim was stabbed twice in the leg and was then taken to a general hospital in Milan for treatment. According to Reuters, the violence began after a group of about 50 Milan fans clashed with PSG fans from abroad in the city's canal district around midnight.
The subject was then discussed on social media on Tuesday afternoon by the organizers. "AC Milan condemns all forms of violence. For us, football is about passion, not hate," the post, uploaded in three languages, said. "Sport should unite, not divide."
A police officer allegedly used a baton to strike a French fan in an effort to bring the situation under control, injuring two other officers in the process.
Although UEFA has not stated that the suspension will impact the remainder of the match, the game at San Siro is set to begin at 8:00 p.m. Neither the authorities nor PSG have yet issued a statement regarding the incident. The French champions uploaded several posts on Tuesday morning, but they were all about previews of the match.

But this season, similar incidents have already occurred in Milan, Europe. A Newcastle United supporter was stabbed in the city in September before the Premier League club played Newcastle United in the Champions League.
Newcastle said: "We are deeply concerned by reports that a fan was seriously injured in Milan on Monday night. We will be contacting local authorities to clarify the situation. Our thoughts are with the fan and his family. We wish him a full and speedy recovery.”
Eddie McKay, 58, who was watching the game with his son and a friend, was sent to the hospital and then given the all-clear.
His daughter later revealed that her father was incapacitated in the incident, chased by thugs, and attacked after he fell.
