2 Ada SHS Students Drown In Volta River

Tragedy struck on Sunday, November 5, 2023, as two students of Ada Senior High School (SHS) in the Greater Accra region drowned in the Volta River.

The students, whose identities remain unknown at this time, are believed to be between the ages of 16 and 18.

According to reports, the students had left the school premises without permission to swim in the Volta River, which is located close to their school.
Unfortunately, their plans took a tragic turn as they lost their lives in the river. Residents who noticed the distressing situation rushed to the scene in an attempt to rescue the students, but their efforts were in vain.

Eyewitnesses reveal that these students had gone to the river to fetch water due to a shortage of water in the school. It is yet to be determined why they chose to swim instead of adhering to the school’s regulations.

Following the incident, the school authorities promptly informed the Ada police station.
The authorities, in collaboration with the police, have transferred the bodies of the students to the district hospital for further examination.

There wasn't enough water in the school, so these students went to the river to get some, according to eyewitnesses. The reason behind their decision to swim rather than follow the rules at school is still unknown.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to safety protocols and guidelines, especially for young individuals who may be more impulsive and prone to take risks. The Ada SHS community and the wider public are deeply saddened by this tragic loss and offer their condolences to the families and friends of the deceased students.

Authorities are urging educational institutions to enhance security measures and monitor students’ activities closely to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
The Ghana Education Service is expected to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident to ensure that measures are put in place to prevent any recurrence.

In the wake of this tragedy, it is crucial for students to be mindful of their safety and make responsible decisions that prioritize their well-being.
