Amidst the glitz and glamour of the music industry, Ghanaian singer Camidoh has opened up about his personal struggles with mental health, revealing a vulnerability that resonates with many.
The BET Award nominee has candidly shared his experiences with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and the impact of two harrowing car accidents he faced this year.
Camidoh's journey towards mental wellness has been marked by resilience and self-awareness. He acknowledges the importance of mental health in the demanding world of music, where artists constantly face pressure and scrutiny. The recent car accidents, while deeply traumatic, served as a stark reminder of the need to prioritize mental well-being.
"I was on the verge of recovering from post-traumatic stress disorder when I was deeply traumatized by two serious car accidents that occurred recently," Camidoh revealed. These incidents undoubtedly exacerbated his PTSD, leaving him grappling with the emotional and psychological repercussions.
Despite the challenges he faces, Camidoh remains committed to his music and his journey towards healing. He recognizes that mental health is not a weakness but a crucial aspect of overall well-being. His openness about his struggles serves as an inspiration to others who may be silently battling similar challenges.
So I had to take my therapy sessions more seriously, now I do two in a week” he revealed.
“It’s really challenging for me because as a creative who is willing to work, these things held me back,” Camidoh said on TV3 Newday.
The ‘Sugarcane’ hitmaker also called for financial support for the industry.
He believes that there is a lot of pressure on Ghanaian creatives to be like their counterparts in Nigeria.
"Being a creative in Ghana is incredibly difficult; we lack the necessary funds to support ourselves. Despite having the cash, Ghanaian creatives are under a lot of strain due to the events in Nigeria.
If we had money to support our activities, we would be increadsing the GDP significantly," he remarked.
