Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is cautioning the public over a means adopted by some scammers to scrupulously dupe them of their monies under the guise of paying for their fees.

The University says persons who applied for admission have been receiving text messages demanding a nonrefundable amount to a link to process their admissions.

A statement issued by the school says “It has come to the notice of the University that messages purported to indicate an offer of admission have been delivered to applicants
for the 2023/2024 admissions, via SMS.

“The messages are being used to demand payment of non-refundable fees of Ghc2,550.00 through a malicious link.”

It cautioned that the University has not commenced processing of applications by WASSCE holders until the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results for the 2023 examination.

“The University wishes to state emphatically, that it has not started processing the applications from holders of the West African Senior High School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).

“Processing of applications from holders of WASSCE will begin after the release of the 2023 WASSCE results by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC),” the statement continued.

The public is advised to take note and not to fall prey to such fraudulent activity/or fraudsters.

“We wish to remind the public that official communication of the University is via the University’s website www.knust.edu.gh, and the University social media networks,” the release concluded.
