Akosombo Dam spillage: Education Ministry in limbo over reopening date for flood-hit SHSs
The Education Ministry is uncertain about when to reopen senior high schools for academic work in flood-hit areas.

The St Kizito Senior High School continues to serve as a safe haven for thousands of residents displaced by the flood in the North Tongu district, after the Akosombo and Kpong dams' spillage.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, November 22, the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, said the school may reopen if the victims are relocated.
"The school became a safe ve so the community has taken over the school. The assessment we did was that by the end of the week, we will get the community to a better location or safer place or back to their homes and then St Kizito can reopen. So we have postponed school reopening for St Kizito which is a high school at Mepe," he said.
In the case of the Comboni Technical School, Dr. Adu Twum said government is working to restore all machines lost to the flood.
"This was a school that was retooled by the President with state-of-the-art equipment. So the organisation that provided the opportunity for us to do the retooling have gone back, the've done the evaluation. They think they have to replace a number of items... They are ready to do that and they are working on that so that we can get all the equipment," he added.
The Volta River Authority (VRA) says the right decisions and responses were made before and after the recent dam spillage.
Addressing a VRA–Ghana Institution of Engineers dialogue in Accra, the CEO of VRA, Emmanuel Antwi Darkwa, said the absence of deaths in the recent spillage is a testament to the fact that the right decisions were taken by the VRA management before and after the spillage.
Antwi Darkwa said the situation could have been worse if the response mechanism was not very effective.
He said, “We empathise with those who have been affected by this spillage. Those affected by this spillage are part of us; we have so many employees who come from these areas. Some of our plant managers come from Mepe, so when something happens to the people of Mepe it affects us.
