Vote-buying have been leveled against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with regards to today's parliamentary primaries in constituencies where the party does not currently hold a majority. Reports indicate that the practice of buying votes is taking place in several locations around the country.
A sense of recklessness pervaded the Ablekuma Central polling station as delegates displayed wads of money they had received in exchange for their votes. JoyNews camera crews managed to capture images of the delegates flaunting their ill-gotten money, not shying away from showing off the funds.
The scene was one of misbehavior, with individuals purchasing votes in the pursuit of power. Delegates brazenly waved around the money, making it clear to all who was offering payment for the vote. The issue of vote-buying was likely an epidemic at the polling station, Justice cries out for those who sought to use.
At Ablekumas Central's parliamentary polls, delegates were seen gathered in a group with a man distributing envelopes filled with money. Upon investigation, the aspirant, Collins confessed to providing ‘transport allowance’ or T&T to the voters.
At the Ejura Sekyeredumase constituency, some concerned delegates had earlier pledged not to vote in the ongoing election if neither of the running candidates succeeded to pay them. In spite of this, the ballot process goes on with the assurance that a payment promise will be fulfilled.
The grievance of the delegates was understandable. All they were asking was for something that was previously agreed upon and promised to them by those in the contest. It was only fair that they got what they were promised. It was even more disappointing that all their efforts have been ignored.
The citizens of Ghana are calling for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to suspend the support it has been providing to the government of Ghana, which is governed by the National Patriotic Party (NPP). This call for action from Ghanaian individuals has been made due to the misuse of IMF funds by the NPP for vote buying ahead of the nation's upcoming elections.
The NPP has been accused of using IMF funds to sway the upcoming election in its favor by buying votes. The accusation has been backed up by documented accounts and videos of NPP members engaging in vote-buying strategies.
