1a. In Kofi Awoonor's 'The Cathedral', four poetic devices used are imagery, metaphor, repetition, and alliteration.

1b. These devices enhance the meaning of the poem. Imagery helps create vivid mental pictures, metaphor adds deeper meaning by comparing two different things, repetition emphasizes certain ideas, and alliteration adds a musical quality to the poem.

2. In Kwesi Brew's 'A Plea for Mercy':

i. Imagery helps create visual and sensory experiences.

ii. Sound devices like rhyme and rhythm enhance the musicality and flow of the poem.

iii. The structure, such as the use of stanzas and line breaks, influences the pacing and emphasis of the poem.

3a. A lyrical poem expresses personal emotions, thoughts, or feelings.

3b. In Shakespeare's Sonnet 1, the theme is the passing of time and the importance of procreation. The imagery of beauty and decay highlights the fleeting nature of youth. Poetic devices like metaphor and personification enhance the emotional impact of the poem.

4. In 'The Gods Are Not to Blame' by Ola Rotimi, three significant themes are fate vs. free will, the consequences of actions, and the power of tradition. These themes drive the plot and shape the characters' destinies.

5. Destiny plays a significant role in the protagonist's life in 'The Gods Are Not to Blame'. It determines his parentage, prophecies, and the challenges he faces. The effects of destiny are seen in his struggles, choices, and ultimate fate.

6a. In 'Changes' by Ama Attaa Aidoo, the changes in Esi Sekyi's life are manifested through her pursuit of independence, her career choices, and her evolving relationships. These changes challenge traditional gender roles and societal expectations.

6b. In 'Changes', instances where women are treated as objects in the hands of men can be seen in the arranged marriage of Esi, the expectation of obedience and submission, and the objectification of women's bodies in society.
