Ghana future is Dr Mahamudu Bawumia  - Afenyo-Markin

In a recent parliamentary session, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Effutu, boldly asserted that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the linchpin for Ghana's future prosperity. According to Afenyo-Markin, the Vice President stands as the most fitting candidate to steer the nation towards greater success. In his eyes, Bawumia outshines other contenders, especially John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, in the race for the 2024 presidency.

Afenyo-Markin's impassioned speech underscored his readiness to engage in a spirited debate with the NDC on any platform. Directing his comments towards the opposition, he challenged them to shift the discourse from attacking Bawumia to a substantive discussion about the nation's future. He emphasized the NPP's preparedness to defend Bawumia's vision for Ghana, dismissing criticisms and urging a focus on critical issues, notably the national budget.

"If they want to reduce this debate to the past Mahama and the future Bawumia, they should say so. We are ready for all these attacks; you have no focus on this budget; you want to attack Bawumia, bring it on; we have your Mahama; bring your Mahama on; and we will take you on," declared Afenyo-Markin.

Drawing a sharp contrast between Bawumia and Mahama, he positioned the Vice President as the embodiment of Ghana's future. He questioned the accomplishments of Mahama during his eight years in power, setting the stage for a comparative analysis of the two leaders.

Meanwhile, John Mahama, currently on a tour of the Western North Region as part of the 'Building Ghana Together' initiative, took a different stance. The NDC flagbearer expressed concerns about the upcoming 2024 elections, cautioning the Electoral Commission (EC) against any attempts to rig the results.

Addressing a charged crowd of students at the Wiaso College of Education and Nursing Training, Mahama stressed the importance of a credible election process. He implored the EC to uphold its duty to both God and country, urging them not to compromise the integrity of the electoral system for any party, including his own.

“They should do their duty to God and country. They shouldn't cheat for anybody. I don't want them to cheat for me and they shouldn't rig the election for anybody,” Mahama emphatically stated. He further called for transparency and fairness, emphasizing that the election results should genuinely reflect the will of the Ghanaian people.

The contrasting positions of Afenyo-Markin and Mahama highlight the intensity of political rivalries in Ghana as the 2024 elections loom. While Afenyo-Markin champions Bawumia as the beacon of Ghana's future, Mahama directs his concerns towards safeguarding the democratic process and ensuring an unbiased electoral outcome. As the political landscape evolves, the nation watches with anticipation for the unfolding dynamics that will shape its future leadership.
