Former President John Mahama has assured his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), of his commitment to ensuring that the true voice of Ghanaians is reflected in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

During an end-of-year gathering at his office in Cantonments on Wednesday, December 20, Mr Mahama reassured the party faithful, national executives, Members of Parliament, and Parliamentary Candidates of the party's preparedness for the elections.

He emphasised the importance of securing and counting every vote to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.

Expressing his determination, Mr Mahama said it was frustrating to hear complaints from people who voted for him but felt their votes were not adequately protected.

These sentiments underscore his dedication to ensuring a fair and transparent election process in the future.

“We are going to leave no stone unturned. We will make this election a true reflection of the people's will. We are going to make sure that the people’s votes are protected. I have heard enough of people walking up to me and telling me we voted for you but you did not protect our votes.”

“We are going to protect their votes and make sure that the outcome of the elections will be a reflection of what the people of Ghana want,” he assured.

Ghanaian Opposition leader John Dramani Mahama issued a statement today criticising President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia for their incompetent management of the economy and poor governance.

Mahama argued that their leadership has severely damaged Ghana's democratic reputation, which has reached an unprecedented low in the history of the 4th Republic.

He emphasised the importance of the 2024 election in restoring faith in Ghana's constitutional democracy and holding the current administration accountable for the high levels of corruption and the state of the economy.

Mahama, leading the National Democratic Congress in the 2024 polls, underscored the need for genuine accountability, which he believes cannot be achieved if the same party and officials responsible for bringing Ghana to this critical point are still in power.

He pledged to provide visionary and selfless leadership if elected, starkly contrasting the NPP's incompetence.

“I can assure you that the John Mahama administration from January 7, 2025, will be different. I promise visionary and selfless leadership and not the business-as-usual approach of the NPP”, the statement added.

Mahama reminded Ghanaians that they have 463 days remaining to go to the polls and that the 2024 election will be “the people's true verdict.”

He urged Ghanaians to remain vigilant and engaged and demand accountability from their leaders to safeguard the core values of democracy.

“The upcoming December 07, 2024, election is therefore crucial to restoring faith in our constitutional democracy”, he noted, adding that “Akufo-Addo and Bawumia must be held accountable for the corruption and deteriorating conditions under their watch over the last almost seven years.”
