The Bauchi State Police Command has officially declared the apprehension of six individuals believed to be key members of an armed robbery syndicate operating across various sectors of the state capital. Superintendent of Police Ahmed Wakil, serving as the Commands Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest of these suspects in a statement released on Tuesday.

Wakil revealed that the armed robbery syndicate, equipped with machetes and torchlights, collaborated with five other accomplices who are currently evading arrest. The individuals taken into custody include Abdulgaffar Abdullahi, aka Jijiya (20), hailing from Sabon Gida, Yelwa; Ahmed Abdulkadir, aka Kurumbo (19) from Unguwan Kusu; Zakaria Saidu, aka Verati (21) of Yelwan Lebura; Umar Abdullahi, aka Yahoo Boy (18) from Yelwan Lebura; Musa Saidu, aka Baba Eru (19) from Sabon Gida; and Musa Mohammed, aka the boy (not specified) from Gwallameji.

The suspects admitted to conspiring with the aforementioned five accomplices who remain at large. Items recovered from their criminal operations included a 32-inch LG flat-screen TV, one dagger, three torchlights, three machetes, one Itel keypad phone, and a sum of N5,910.

The criminal group reportedly targeted residences in the Unguwan Kashu and Sabon Gida areas of Bauchi, pilfering valuables such as a 32-inch LG flat-screen TV, a Samsung Galaxy A51 phone, and an Itel keypad phone.

Umar Abdullahi, one of the apprehended suspects, confessed to the reprehensible act of raping a 23-year-old student of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, during a robbery at the victims lodge in Gwallameji. The victim also had her Infinix Hot 8 mobile phone stolen during the incident, which occurred on December 9, 2023.

Wakil further disclosed that all the suspects confessed to being responsible for terrorizing communities around Gwallameji, Rafin Zurfi, Unguwan Kasu, and Millennium quarters in the Yelwa area of Bauchi.

Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Muhammad, has directed that the accused be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a discreet investigation. Upon completion of the investigation, the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution.

Wakil emphasized the commitment of the police command to its statutory duties and the assurance that citizens of Bauchi State can sleep with both eyes closed. The public is urged to cooperate with the police in their efforts to maintain peace and security in the state.
