The Ghanaian woman, Abdul-Razak Failatu, claims she is seeking to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest cooking marathon to honour her deceased mother.
A few hours before the cook-action began at midnight on January 1, Failatu revealed on Facebook that she didn't have the best connection with her mother, who passed away, but expressed optimism that her mother would be happy with what she had accomplished.
“I forgive you oh Mama, for all the love you couldn’t give me, I forgive you for all you couldn’t give me. I forgive you for all you couldn’t do for me because you didn’t have it.
I forgive you for all the time and attention you couldn’t give me. I forgive you for God and myself. I pray that this honour glorifies you in your grave. I pray that you are satisfied with my achievement. Rest In Honour Mama. I’ll do this for you,” she posted.
Days after Afua Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum's sing-a-thon quest to break the world record officially concluded after five days, Abdul-Razak Failatu began her attempt to set a Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest cooking marathon as the globe greeted the year 2024.
In Tamale, in Ghana's Northern Region, on the eve of New Year's Eve 2024, Failatu Abdul-Razak began her effort.
She has 43 hours remaining as of the time this report was submitted. Actor Dabo from Kumawood and highlife singer Kwabena Kwabena have both visited her to offer support. (See VP.) With GH₵30k, Bawumia supports Tamale Chef's bold bid to break the world record for the cook-a-thon.
The current Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon is being attempted to be broken by Failatu. Her goal is to complete 120 hours.
Hilda Baci, 26, set a record for the longest cooking marathon, clocking in at 93 hours and 11 minutes.
On Tuesday, June 13, she was formally recognised as the owner of the Guinness World Record. Failatu operates out of Tamale's Modern City Hotel.
