Because my team and I were upset with Shatta Wale for disparaging Nigerian musicians, including Destiny Omon, we wrote a free blog post on Black Sherif.
The reason behind Nigerians' admiration for Ghanaian hip-hop sensation Black Sherif has been disclosed by renowned Nigerian film director and President of the Nollywood Ghana Chapter, Destiny Austine Omon.
During an interview with OnuaShowbiz on Onua FM, Omon revealed that they decided to back Black Sherif since Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale had insulted them.
The acclaimed director revealed that he and his associates actively promoted Black Sherif on their websites out of anger towards Shatta Wale.
We're talking about Black Sherif, whose rise to prominence was fueled by Nigerians. I was writing a free blog about Black Sherif, and you know why? because, as Omon stated in the interview, we were upset with Shatta Wale.
According to Omon, the impetus behind this support stemmed from Shatta Wale's disparaging remarks made about Nigerians at his "Freedom Concert" in December 2021.
Shatta Wale made disparaging statements about Nigerian artists during the event at the Accra Sports Stadium, in addition to disparaging his Ghanaian counterparts. He said, "Do you know that the bulk of individuals in the Ghana music industry are fools? They informed me that my stadium won't hold a full house.
"I look up to my fans; I don't look up to any dumb Nigerian artist. F**k Nigeria."
Omon underlined that Black Sherif's ascent to prominence in the industry was spurred by the backlash to Shatta Wale's remarks.
"Black Sherif came after Shatta Wale stood on stage to insult our mothers and all of that and saw it that let us push Black Sherif to show Ghana that when we support you, you are good to go," he stated.
Destiny Omon called for greater artist collaboration but cautioned musicians against taking such a stance, saying that it doesn't advance the industry.
