Cameroon's football journey in the AFCON has been tumultuous, facing challenges both before the tournament and in their initial matches. In a disappointing turn of events, they succumbed to a 3-1 defeat against Senegal, leaving them in a precarious position regarding qualification for the knockout stage.

Even with a man advantage throughout the entire second half in their opening game against The Gambia, Cameroon struggled to secure a victory and ended up with a frustrating 1-1 draw. This lackluster performance has not gone unnoticed by the president of the Cameroonian Football Association, Samuel Eto'o, who expressed his displeasure and frustration with the team's commitment.

Eto'o, addressing the players after the defeat to Senegal, revealed his plans to implement a "patriotism test" before considering young Cameroonians for national team call-ups. This move suggests a desire to assess and ensure the players' dedication to representing their country on the football stage.

Among the 11 players fielded against Senegal, six were born in Cameroon, including notable names like Andre Onana, Yvan Neyou, Nouhou Tolo, Zambo Anguissa, Olivier Kemen, and Moumi Ngamaleu. However, a concerning aspect arises as five of the starting 11 were born in France, having switched nationalities. Jean Castelleto, Christopher Wooh, Enzo Tchato, Kevin Nkoudou, and Frank Magri raise doubts about their commitment to the Cameroonian cause.

This dual-nationality issue has become a significant point of contention for Cameroonian football, with Eto'o openly questioning the dedication of certain players. The blending of backgrounds within the team has led to concerns about the players' allegiance and passion for representing Cameroon at the highest level.

Now, with their AFCON journey hanging in the balance, Cameroon faces the imperative task of defeating The Gambia. Qualification for the knockout phase is contingent on both their success in this upcoming match and favorable outcomes in results from other fixtures. The road ahead demands a resurgence of commitment and unity from the Indomitable Lions if they are to salvage their AFCON campaign and regain the faith of their fans and football authorities alike.
