To be honest, i don't even know what to make of the Black Stars' latest exit from the AFCON tournament. They were literally just six minutes of added time away from qualifying but they just threw it away against Mozambique. Never in the history of the Black Stars had they thrown away a two goal lead in a match but they just happened to set this sort of record at the worst possible moment. The problem with this crop of players goes way beyond coaching problems so i would like to take you through some of the main problems affecting the this team- where do i even start, it seems that from top to bottom the National Team is such a crappy mess, like there is no balance in this team, a non existent defence ,lackadaisical midfield and a weak frontline (to be fair the service to the forwards is really poor so i am only gonna put partial blame on them). What is the identity of this team? What exactly is their style of play? How do they intend to play. They are mostly poor on the counter attack, they are defensively weak, they can't hold possession for long periods and in the rare moments they are able to hold possession they mostly make backward passes.Quite frankly speaking, some of the players are not fit to wear the shirt of the Black Stars anymore and should quite frankly just retire from the game.
2.The Team Selection-quite frankly i have become convinced that somebody has secretly bought the team from the inside and just wants to disgrace the National Team otherwise i can't really understand how the those in charge are able to make such questionable team selections. Is like the players are just selected and lumped together as a team. Careful and proper analysis should be done on each and every player selected before the tournament to know their strengths and weaknesses. For example Inaki is an out and out striker, which means his sole purpose on the pitch is to get the ball in dangerous areas in the opponents' box where he can cause damage and show his best. The problem with Inaki Williams style of play is that has to be fed the ball in order to get the best out of him otherwise he has little influence on a game this is why he was struggling not because he sucks as a player but because he isn't being fed the ball. As for Semenyo and Mohammed Kudus(even though he managed two goals) their struggles in front of goal is more or less the same as Inaki Williams they also don't get much service. As for the midfield apart from Ashimeru and Thomas Partey who is currently out injured, there is no player in that Ghana Midfield that can drive upfield really well with the ball and provide service for the forwards so the midfield is more or less annonymous in most matches. As for the defence there is a certain passivenes to them, as if they don't care that they are playing for the National Team.Sometimes they were playing as if they forgot they were in tournament, they coudn't even keep one clean sheet in all the games they played in the tournament and they conceded five goals most of which were largely avoidable.
I can't believe the Ayew brothers were selected for this tournament when the signs have clearly shown they are not fit to wear the shirt of the National Team Anymore.First,Jordan Ayew, the two goals aside he was very poor overall in the tournament cannot count the number of times Jordan Ayew gave the ball away when Ghana had possession and the number of times he wasted potentially killer counter attacks by holding on to the ball for too long and drawing a foul instead of releasing a killer pass for the front line, particularly Inaki Williams.
As for Andre Ayew, what more can i say, he is somehow almost always responsible for Ghana's early and high profile eliminations from recent tournaments.2021 Afcon, Ghana had momentum after coming back from two goals down to draw Comoros in the final game. All Ghana needed was one extra goals to win the game and everything was done and dusted.Guess What happened?Dede got red card, killing Ghana's drive and momentum which allowed Comoros, a team of minnows,to win the game.2022 World Cup, in the third game against Uruguay, Kudus Mohammed managed to win a penalty but instead of letting Kudus who won the penalty take it himself he decide that since he was the Captain, he was going to take it score and claim all the plaudits.Guess what happened ? he missed and Uruguay scored two quickfire goals to eliminate Ghana from the tournament even though Uruguay were eliminated themselves. In this year's AFCON ,Against Mozambique in added time Ghana have a two goal lead and are just minutes away from qualification, Andre Ayew gives away a penalty, Mozambique score and score another quickfire goal from a corner kick to eliminated Ghana out of the tournament. Honestly, this guy needs a break.
Lastly lets talk about Goalkeeper Richard Ofori how can you let Someone who is a THIRD CHOICE GOALKEEPER IN HIS CLUB BE THE STARTING GOALKEEPRER FOR THE NATIONAL TEAM as for this guy the less said about him the better(not to mention that he conceded the corner kick which let to Mozambique scoring the equalizing goal and eliminating Ghana from the tournament).
3.Coaching Problems and Political Instability- I have to say, firing Nyantakyi as the President Of the GFA has been a huge mistake.Under Nyantakyi when ever Ghana played a tournament we were formidable and actually went far in most tournaments we played In. In the 2006 World Cup, Ghana's first ever World Cup, they made it to the round of 16 were they lost to a formidable Brazilian Side. In the 2010 AFCON, Ghana made it to the finals, in the 2010 World Cup, Ghana was able to make it to the Quarter Finals, in the 2012 AFCON, Ghana made it to the Semi finals, in the 2015 AFCON Ghana were once again Finalists and in the 2017 AFCON Ghana were able to make it to the. Semi Finals. Despite the Corruption, under Nyantakyi Ghana was really doing well and most importantly they weren't hiring and firing Coaches frequently as they are doing now,.Ever since Nyantakyi left, the furthest Ghana progressed in a tournament is the Round of 16 in the 2019 AFCON were they lost to Tunisia.Since then Ghana has gone out in the Group Stages of every tournament they have played. As a matter of fact, Ghana has only won 1 of the past 10 AFCON games which shows how far Ghana has retrogressed as a footballing side.
On top of that the Coaches hired to Coach the team don't seem to know what they are doing, is like they don't have any tactical knowledge of the game because it seems they are unable to implement any sort of tactical formation for the team.Take Chirs Houghton for example, the guy looked clueless anytime Ghana was playing in the AFCON, as if he didn't know what to do. On top of that the changes he made never worked out in favor of Ghana but it always seemed to go against them.
Otto Ado too at the World Cup, it was the same he looked strangely clueless when he was coaching the National Team, although there was one time i saw him in an argument with Andre Ayew in Ghana's group stage game against Portugal after he was substituted which might explain why there was some unrest in the Ghana Camp during the World Cup but whatever is plaguing this side, it seems that it can't be solved simply by Changing Coaches and Changing players but will take time to plan and slowly implement. It is about high time the GFA get off their asses and find solutions to the problems of this team cause it isn't just gonna solve itself. Whatever the problem is they better solve and solve it fast cause people are getting tired of this problems happening over and over again.
