 Ramires Santos do Nascimento, commonly known as Ramires, is a retired Brazilian professional footballer who had a successful career playing as a midfielder. He was born on March 24, 1987, in Barra do Piraí, Brazil. 


Ramires began his professional career at Joinville before moving to Cruzeiro in 2005. It was during his time at Cruzeiro that Ramires gained recognition for his performances, attracting the attention of European clubs. In 2009, he made a move to Portuguese side Benfica, where he enjoyed immediate success.


During his two seasons at Benfica, Ram and athleticism in the midfield, helping his team win the Primeira Liga and reaching the UEFA Europa League final. His performances did not go unnoticed, and in the summer of 2010, he secured a big-money transfer to Chelsea in the English Premier League.


At Chelsea, Ramires became an integral part of the team's success under manager Roberto Di Matteo and later José Mourinho. Renowned for his tireless work rate and ability to contribute defensively and offensively, Ramires played a crucial role in Chelsea's Champions League triumph in the 2011-12 season, scoring a memorable chip goal against Barcelona in the semi-finals.


Throughout his time at Chelsea, Ramires was admired for his energy, stamina, and ability to make vital runs from midfield. He won several trophies with the club, including the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup. In total, he made over 250 appearances for the Blues, scoring over 40 goals.


In 2016, Ramires made a surprise move to Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning, where he continued to perform at a high level. He helped his team win the Chinese FA Cup in 2016, playing a key role in their success.


After four successful years in China, Ramires returned to Europe in 2020, joining Palmeiras in his native Brazil. However, due to injuries and a lack of consistent playing time, he struggled to reach the same heights as in his earlier career. In 2021, Ramires announced his retirement from professional football.


Ramires also had an impressive international career, representing Brazil at various levels. He made his senior debut in 2009 and was part of the Brazilian squad that won the Copa America in 2011. He also represented his country in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2015 Copa America.


Overall, Ramires' career was defined by his energy, versatility, and ability to contribute both defensively and offensively. His performances for clubs like Benfica and Chelsea cemented his reputation as a top-class midfielder. Despite facing some challenges towards the end of his career, Ramires will be remembered as a talented player who achieved success at both the club and international level.
