In a recent development at the Antoa Nyamaa shrine in the Ashanti Region, the longstanding dispute between the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, and the Kokosohene, Nana Kwaku Duah, has taken a new turn. Custodians at the shrine have referred the two parties back to the Manhyia Palace to properly resolve their differences, marking a significant chapter in this ongoing saga.
The conflict stems from a curse invoked by Chairman Wontumi against the Kokosohene, which remains in force due to conflicting narratives by the two individuals. The Kumasi Traditional Council had initially intervened and instructed the two parties to visit Antoa to reverse the curse. However, upon their arrival, the Kokosohene remained steadfast in his assertion that Wontumi had disrespected the Asantehene, thereby refusing to withdraw the allegation and leading to Wontumi's inability to reverse the curse.
Accompanied by senior linguists (Akyeame) from the Manhyia Palace, the two individuals made their way to Antoa, only to reach an impasse as the Kokosohene maintained his stance, claiming that Wontumi's words had indeed disrespected the Asantehene. This resulted in Wontumi declaring that he would not be able to reverse the curse if the Kokosohene continued to uphold his position, further exacerbating the dispute.
The origins of this conflict trace back to a heated exchange of words during the NPP parliamentary vetting at the Manhyia South constituency. Allegations of disrespect towards the Asantehene were levied by the Kokosohene, prompting Wontumi to invoke curses using the Antoa Nyamaa shrine. Despite the Kumasi Traditional Council's ruling that the issue was trivial and unnecessary, the curse on the Kokosohene remains in effect.
The standoff between Wontumi and the Kokosohene has now taken a pivotal turn, as the custodians at the Antoa Nyamaa shrine have redirected the matter back to the Manhyia Palace for a comprehensive resolution before the curse can be properly overturned. Speculations have arisen regarding the Kokosohene's insistence on his position, with suggestions that his refusal to retract his allegations may be linked to potential repercussions should he backtrack in the presence of senior linguists and a chief from Manhyia.
As the saga continues to unfold, all eyes are now on the Manhyia Palace, where efforts to bring about a conclusive settlement to this protracted dispute are eagerly anticipated.
