A member of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's campaign team named Dennis Miracles Aboagye has downplayed the influence that Independent Presidential candidate Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen would have on the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) vote total in the Ashanti region for the polls scheduled for 2024.
Speaking on The Citiuation Room on Citi TV, Miracles Aboagye stated that she was confident in Dr. Bawumia's popularity in most parts of the country, even if Kyerematen claimed he would receive a sizable number of votes in the Volta and Central Ashanti regions.
I dont think Mr Alan Kyerematen has the gravitas to affect the party
[votes] just because hes from the NPP, and hes from the Ashanti
Region. I dont think so.
Since the NPP and NDC have a history of domination, Aboagye noted that it would be extremely difficult for any new political party to rise to their level.
The NPP and NDC, I have always insisted that these two political
parties are very established forces. If you have any idea about how a
political party functions, then you must understand that theres a tall
order, its an extremely tall order. It will take another political
party probably 20 to 30 years to reach the level of NDC and NPP, its a
lot of work.
Nonetheless, in response to a query concerning Kyerematen's potential threat to the NPP, he made it clear that the organization is proactive and will incorporate the Movement for Change leader into their plans should he make an appearance on the ballot.
Its an election, everybody on the ballot paper has the view that
they could win. And for us in the NPP, we take every election seriously,
in spite of what the persons slot may be. And so once he finds his
name on the ballot paper, why not? We will factor him into everything we
do as a political party. We are not taking chances, we are not
complacent at all, and we are not dumpling anybodys effect, Miracles
Aboagye noted.
