On Friday, Akwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, the Member of Parliament for Sunayni East, temporarily assumed the role of presiding member in the absence of Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin and his deputies, Joe Osei Owusu and Andrew Asiamah. The Speaker and his deputies were unavoidably absent due to official duties.

In accordance with the new Standing Orders, Parliament's Clerk, Cyril Nsiah, urged the House to elect a member to prevent constitutional challenges arising from the vacancy.

To address this, Majority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh proposed Akwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, the former whip he succeeded, to fill the vacant seat as the presiding member.

The proposal received unanimous support, with Kwame Agbodza from the minority side seconding the motion. Consequently, Akwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh's selection to lead the House was met with unanimous approval.
