The honor of hosting the 67th Independence Day National Celebration has been bestowed upon the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua, with the event slated for March 6, 2024. This decision was officially disclosed by Lord Commey, Director of Operations at the Office of the President, who led a delegation from the national planning committee to the Region.

During their visit, the committee engaged with the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, apprising them of the imminent celebration and conducting a thorough assessment of the facilities at the designated venue—the Koforidua Youth Resource Center, where the national parade is set to unfold. Strategic recommendations were proffered to ensure the seamless execution and success of the grand event.

A pivotal meeting convened at the Regional Coordinating Council resulted in the establishment of various sub-planning committees, each assigned specific roles to guarantee the meticulous planning and execution of a celebration befitting the nation's independence. Lord Commey, underscoring the significance of the occasion, urged the region to leverage this opportunity to showcase its cultural and developmental prowess on both national and global stages.

Recognizing the potential for economic stimulation, Lord Commey encouraged active participation from the private sector, emphasizing sponsorship and partnership opportunities. The infusion of private sector support, he noted, could yield positive effects on the local economy.

Adding to the anticipation, the Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, disclosed that the official launch of the Independence Day celebration was scheduled for February 1, 2024. This marks a historic moment for the Eastern Region, signifying its maiden experience in hosting the National Independence Day celebration—a testament to its preparedness and eagerness to orchestrate a remarkable event.

The forthcoming celebration carries added significance as it marks President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's final Independence Day commemoration before concluding his two-term presidency on January 7, 2025. With preparations in full swing, the Eastern Region is poised to host an unforgettable event that will not only celebrate Ghana's independence but also showcase the nation's rich cultural heritage and accomplishments to the global audience.
