Kennedy Agyapong, a former flagbearer hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has seemingly criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in response to Bawumia's comparison of himself to a driver's mate within the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government. Bawumia expressed his desire to become the "driver" and implement his own vision for the country.

In a preview of the upcoming KSM show airing on February 23, 2024, Agyapong outlined why he would decline an offer to be Bawumia's running mate in the 2024 presidential elections, citing his outspoken nature. When asked by the show's host, Kwaku Sintim-Misa, if he would accept such an offer, Agyapong unequivocally stated, "No, I wouldn't do it," emphasizing that he values speaking his mind.

Agyapong, the current Member of Parliament for Assin Central, subtly jabbed at the vice president by asserting, "And I am not going to be mate," accompanied by a dismissive head shake.

Bawumia, in his significant address as the NPP's flagbearer, reiterated his analogy of being a driver's mate, emphasizing that if elevated to the presidency, he would be in the "driver's seat" with constitutional authority to pursue his vision and priorities for Ghana. He outlined his vision, aiming to create an inclusive nation that embraces diversity and fosters economic prosperity, job creation, and participation in the fourth industrial revolution.

This isn't the first instance where Bawumia highlighted his role as an assistant to President Akufo-Addo. During the speech at the UPSA auditorium on February 7, 2024, Bawumia also discussed plans to abolish certain taxes and outlined policies for Ghana's future, while acknowledging the successes of the current government.

In summary, Agyapong's rejection of a potential vice presidential role and his critique of Bawumia's analogy underscore the internal dynamics within the NPP as the 2024 elections approach. Bawumia, meanwhile, remains steadfast in his vision for a united and prosperous Ghana, emphasizing his commitment to inclusive governance.
