In a proactive move to alleviate the issue of unemployment among healthcare workers, specifically nurses, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has presented a comprehensive solution during his recent visit to the Savannah Region. Mahama's proposal centers on exploring opportunities for the overseas employment of qualified health professionals.

Recognizing the significance of finding gainful employment for nurses upon completing their training, Mahama envisions the establishment of a specialized unit within the Ministry of Employment. This dedicated unit would be entrusted with recruiting nurses who meet the required qualifications for overseas employment. The primary objective of this unit is to facilitate agreements with various countries, allowing Ghanaian nurses to work abroad on fixed-term contracts.

Mahama articulated the strategy, stating, "We want to increase the production of health workers and nurses, and we will employ them to work for us as many as we can, but at the same time, we will sign agreements with other countries where we can post our nurses to go and work on fixed contracts. So under the Ministry of Employment, we will have a unit that can recruit nurses and ensure they are of the standard to work in international hospitals."

This proposal aims to provide meaningful employment opportunities for nurses within Ghana and addresses the global shortage of healthcare professionals. By fostering international collaborations and partnerships, Mahama envisions creating avenues for skilled Ghanaian nurses to contribute to healthcare systems worldwide while benefiting from gainful employment.

This forward-thinking approach aligns with the broader goal of enhancing the capabilities and reach of the healthcare workforce while simultaneously addressing the unemployment challenges faced by skilled professionals in the country.

Mahama's proposition seeks to offer employment opportunities for Ghanaian nurses and mitigate the shortage of healthcare professionals in foreign countries. Through the establishment of collaborations with international counterparts, Mahama envisions opening pathways for proficient nurses to contribute to global healthcare systems while ensuring their access to meaningful employment.

In essence, Mahama's proposal demonstrates a strategic approach to combatting unemployment among healthcare professionals. This involves harnessing international partnerships and creating prospects for overseas employment, reflecting a comprehensive effort to address local and global healthcare challenges.
