As the countdown to Ghana's 67th Independence Day celebrations on March 6th draws near, residents of Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital, are lauding the government's efforts in improving infrastructure ahead of the grand event.

A significant focus has been placed on addressing long-standing issues such as dilapidated roads and malfunctioning streetlights, which have plagued the city for years. Residents have expressed satisfaction with the noticeable facelifts seen across the city in preparation for the prestigious occasion.

One of the most notable developments is the ongoing rehabilitation of the Koforidua Mamfe road, a vital artery that had been neglected for an extended period. The commencement of work on this crucial route came as a pleasant surprise to residents and commuters alike, many of whom had endured the challenges posed by its pothole-ridden surface for far too long.

The dire state of the road had not only made travel difficult but also posed safety risks, particularly at night. To avoid the hazards, transport unions had resorted to longer routes, significantly increasing travel time for commuters.

However, the announcement that Koforidua would host the 67th Independence Day celebrations brought renewed hope for infrastructure improvements. The city's designation as the host prompted swift action, with major roads receiving asphalt overlays and essential amenities like streetlights undergoing repairs, transforming the cityscape.

The significance of hosting such a prestigious event has not been lost on residents, who eagerly anticipate the arrival of high-profile dignitaries, including the President of Ivory Coast, Alassane Dramane Ouattara, who will serve as the special guest of honor.

To ensure a memorable celebration, a series of events have been planned, including flag hoisting ceremonies and a football match, followed by a community clean-up day on Monday. Security preparations are also well underway, with contingents from various agencies and schools actively rehearsing for their participation in the festivities.

The influx of visitors for the Independence Day celebrations has led to a surge in demand for accommodation, with hotels in the regional capital fully booked. Local businesses, including restaurants and pubs, are gearing up to welcome guests and provide them with an unforgettable experience.

While residents appreciate the infrastructure improvements taking place, some have questioned why similar efforts were not initiated earlier. Nevertheless, the overall sentiment is one of gratitude for the positive changes occurring in the city.

As Koforidua prepares to showcase its vibrant culture and hospitality on the national stage, anticipation continues to build, with residents eagerly awaiting the arrival of dignitaries and the opportunity to commemorate Ghana's independence in grand style.
