South Dayi MP Rockson Etse Dafeamekpor has stated that Ghana needs infrastructure comparable to the National Cathedral. He made it clear that the nation needed a spiritual center and suggested that constructing a cathedral would be a good thing to do. During an interview with JoyNews, Mr. Dafeamekpor voiced his concerns about the project's selected location and funding, suggesting that the government is not fully committed to seeing it through. It has always been my stance that the concept is sound, but the criticism leveled is that it is unnecessary now since the economy is in a state of collapse.
We shouldn't be doing it right now, but it's something to have if we can pull it off, and having the resources to back it up is even better. We should have seen the building up, even if it is not finished, considering the amount of money invested. The building of the National Cathedral has stalled at the foundation stage, despite previous promises by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta that it would be finished by March 6, 2024. Under the leadership of North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, National Democratic Congress members of parliament sought to formally commission the project. Security officers, however, resisted their attempts and pointed to orders from above as the reason.
Still, Mr. Ablakwa made several requests while the situation was happening. Whoever is responsible for the loss of our $8,141,552 must answer to us. The immediate dissolution of the National Cathedral Board of Trustees is our urgent demand."We are urging all the prosecutor institutions to promptly begin prosecuting individuals responsible for this enormous financial loss to the state," he made the bold statement. Many Ghanaians have also criticized the idea of building the National Cathedral. Some claim the money should be used to create more jobs in the country. What do you also think about the National Cathedral?
