Asante Akim South MP Andy Appiah Kubi has called on the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to pick its vice presidential candidate for 2024 in a manner that is free of hiccups.
He suggested that his party take a page out of the National Democratic Congress's playbook, which has chosen Jane Nanaa Opoku-Agyeman as its running partner without a single finger of contention. On TV3's Key Issues, the NPP lawmaker warned that Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia's choice of a running mate for the December elections was marred by internal party strife.
According to Andy Appiah Kubi, there are numerous highly talented individuals inside the ruling party who could fill the role of running mate, but unfortunately, only one person can do so. He sent his congratulations to Jane Nanaa Opoku-Agyeman, the prominent opposition party's choice for vice president. He claims she has an extensive academic background that she brings to the table.
He predicts that the nominee chosen by his party will be able to challenge the NDC's vice-presidential contender. "I think the NPP should also learn from this and pick a candidate who will give her a good run for her money because the more we compete among ourselves, the better we bring out the good people in leadership."
The NDC has chosen Jane Nanaa Opoku-Agyeman, and she brings something new to the table. My people in the NPP should expect them to follow suit. Because in the end, only one person will be able to fill that office, he said, "So let us not be fighting over one position." Instead, he urged everyone to rally behind the ticket's winner. There have been widespread allegations since the unfortunate death of Deputy Finance Minister John Kumah that he was poisoned by individuals thought to be affiliated with the NPP, maybe as a result of the power struggle over the vice presidential position.
