The governing New Patriotic Party is presently engaged in some internal disputes. An infamous reason has put the celebration in the spotlight for the last several days. One of her members of parliament was ousted last week, leading to accusations that other party members had poisoned others.
Before this, Captain Smart, a host on Onua TV, had claimed that members of the party poisoned the late MP John Kumah; thus, the situation was already heated. So, picking a running companion is one of the key reasons many have said is due to the internal bickering. The party chose Mahamudu Bawumia as its flagbearer over five months ago, but no one has been announced as a running mate for Bawumia as of yet.
So much infighting has broken out inside the party as a result of this vacuum, as everyone wants their candidate to be Bawumia's running mate. The chosen individual will certainly hail from the Ashanti region, even though the exact identity is uncertain. Someone who has been significant in matters about the Ashanti Region is Bernard Antwi Boasiako, who is the chairman of the NPP in that region. Chairman Wontumi, as he is affectionately known, is a very powerful figure inside the party. The individual known as "TomTom," who is the NPP chairperson for Manhyia South, has accused chairperson Wontumi of trying to get his own candidate elected as a running partner.
Yaw Adutwum and John Kumah were accused by the chairman of having bribed Wontumi to approve their partnership with Bawumia. Wontumi has expressed his severe disapproval of these claims. Although many people have a say in the choice, he claims to have some say in it. Bawumia personally will be accountable for the key selection, he insisted. To avoid a court writ, Wontumi warned the chairman of the Manhyia South NPP party that he must appear and provide evidence of the charges. The NPP chairman, he said, has 48 hours to either apologize or provide evidence that Wontumi has been accepting bribes.
