The
Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) convened its 28th annual delegates
congress, a longstanding tradition aimed at democratically electing new
leadership to succeed the current Captain Jephthah Nana Kame's administration.
Spanning from March 20th to March 28th,2024, this congress unfolded over a
week-long period, encompassing various stages and activities.
Beginning on March 20th, the congress commenced at the sector level, with each
of the five TTAG sectors nationwide holding their respective gatherings. These
sectors include ATTRICONS, representing colleges in the northern part of Ghana;
AHSBA, comprising colleges from the Ashanti and Brong Ahafo areas; EAGA,
including colleges from the Eastern and Greater Accra regions; WEC,
representing colleges from the Western and Central areas; and VOLTA,
encompassing colleges from the Volta region. On March 24th, each sector
conducted elections to select new leaders before transitioning to the GNAT
Hostel in Koforidua for the national congress.
The atmosphere throughout the congress was lively and engaging, with delegates
passionately rallying behind their slogans during deliberations. Electoral
activities were pervasive, with ongoing processes such as aspirant vetting,
campaign activities, and manifesto presentations. Notably, a presidential
debate ensued, featuring initially three candidates who passed through the
vetting process successfully. They earnestly articulated their visions for the
association, each expressing a genuine commitment to its advancement. The
ultimate determination of leadership rested in the outcome of the votes cast by
delegates.
In the presidential race, Soale Razak emerged victorious, having previously
served as the Student Representative Council (SRC) president of Tamale College
of Education. Razak's triumph was attributed to the fervent efforts of his
campaign, which emphasized the ethos of servant leadership encapsulated in his
slogan, "let the servant serve." This rallying cry underscored his
dedication to serving the association and resonated strongly with voters. Thus,
Razak's election marked a new chapter in TTAG's leadership, driven by a mandate
for positive change and service-oriented governance.
