In a landmark move, the Ghanaian Finance Ministry has announced the appointment of Ms. Julie Essiam as the new Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), marking a significant milestone as the first woman to hold this esteemed position.
Ms. Essiam's appointment follows the departure of Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, who was relieved of his duties on March 27.
Bringing a wealth of experience to her new role, Ms. Essiam previously served as the Commissioner responsible for the Support Services Division within the GRA. Her professional journey boasts extensive tenure as a Group Executive at the Ecobank Group, where she spearheaded operations across 40 countries spanning North America, Europe, Africa, and beyond. Furthermore, her commitment to community development shines through her dedicated involvement in initiatives geared towards youth empowerment and transformation.
The Ministry also announced three other pivotal appointments within the GRA's leadership structure. Mr. Edward Apenteng Gyamerah has been named Commissioner of the Domestic Tax Revenue Division, Ms. Pearl Darko assumes the role of Commissioner of the Support Services Division, and Brigadier General Ziblim Ayorrogo takes on the responsibility of Commissioner of Customs. These appointments underscore the government's commitment to bolstering the GRA's operational efficiency and ensuring the attainment of set targets, underscored by a steadfast commitment to professionalism, equity, and unparalleled client service.
Expressing gratitude to the outgoing leadership of the GRA for their dedicated service, the Ministry warmly welcomed the newly appointed officials. The expectations are high for a rejuvenated and effective GRA under their stewardship, poised to navigate the complexities of revenue collection and administration in Ghana's dynamic economic landscape.
With a focus on operational excellence and service delivery, these appointments are poised to drive the GRA towards greater effectiveness and impact in fulfilling its mandate within the Ghanaian fiscal landscape.
