A video showing actor John Dumelo claiming he was too scared to take part in filming a scene has made its way back online in the wake of the tragedy. As the canoe was about to be thrown into a river, John Dumelo—who was on set with luminaries like Kwadwo Nkansah, Lil Win, and the late Bernard Nyarko—jumped out of it in the blink of an eye.
The actor, who was worried about his safety while carrying only a prop pistol, declined to get on the canoe. The actor adamantly refused to go on the canoe ride, even though his coworkers tried desperately to calm his worries. A discussion over the well-being and working circumstances of African performers has begun on social media following Junior Pope's death. In the wake of Wednesday's tragic boating tragedy, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has declared a stop to all film productions using boat trips. Filming of any kind involving riverine locations or boat rides will be temporarily or permanently halted in the wake of the sad boat accident that killed Junior Pope and three other crew members on April 10th at River Niger Cable Point, Asaba.
"Everywhere in the country, there will be a nationwide standstill on Thursday, April 11, 2024, for filming of the film 'The Other Side of Life.' Additionally, until further notice, no actor can be associated with Adamma Luke as a producer. The search for the bodies of the remaining persons continues," stated Emeka Rollas, president of AGN.
