On the 8th of May 2024 I saw a very exciting experience for students and staff of God's Way Senior High School. The students fully participated in voting exercise to elect their Senior prefects in a grand style, using the official electoral processes for the first time since the school was established.
However, the assistant Headmaster of God's Way Senior High School, Mr. Ampofo Godwin, acting as an Electoral Officer and was the issuer of ballot papers to the student to go and vote,
as an advocacy that is set to train the students to be ready and play critical roles in society as good citizens.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ampofo, (the EC officer), said this year's election was one of the many efforts by the school to develop leadership skills and create a sense of democratic awareness among students and prepare them for future events at any level as 2024 elections is fast approaching.
He stated; " There are many students who have never voted in an organized elections before and hence taking the opportunity to use the electoral processes to educate them on how to use ballot papers and other processes of voting".
The students, casting their votes had total ballot cast of 164 for the Boys, Girls, Compound Overseer, Prep, Dormitory, Entertainment, Dispensary, Protocol and Sports Prefects.
Following the official declarations by the school’s Electoral Committee, Master Ampofo declared Samuel Nana Obeng Manu, with 62 votes out of 134 total valid votes, as Boys' prefect and Princess Anokyewaa, with 58 votes out of 134 total valid votes cast as Girls’ Prefects of God's Way Senior High School for the next academic season.
"From the time of selecting the students, to the campaigning processes leading to voting and ballot counting to final announcement, the students were given an opportunity to fully experience a free and fair election", the assistant Headmaster disclosed.
He continued; "The entire experience will not only prepare their minds for future endeavours, but will also etched in their minds in a sense of a right of choice".
The elected school boys' prefect, Samuel Nana Obeng Manu on behalf of the contestants, winners and the entire casters gave their profound gratitude for the educative exercise.
He concluded by saying it's been a wonderful process with a lot of experience for the entire students of God's Way Senior High School to know how voting is done in even our general elections. They students now have a fair idea of how elections are held. He added
